That Makes a Difference
STEM at CCA
CCA uses the BJU Curriculum. It incorporates STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) throughout their curriculum, particularly in science and math, by integrating hands-on activities, real-world engineering challenges, and, in higher grades, the use of advanced technology tools. These activities are designed to foster critical thinking, collaboration, and a biblical worldview, encouraging students to solve problems and act as stewards of creation.
Where STEM is Incorporated
- Elementary Science (Grades 1-6): Incorporates dedicated STEM activities, inquiry-based investigations, and “Try It Yourself” features in student editions.
- Middle & High School Science: Features lab-based, hands-on activities in science labs, including engineering design processes and data analysis.
- Teacher Editions: Contain specific lesson plans, rubrics, and guidance for conducting STEM activities.
- Math Curriculum (Elementary through Algebra 1): Includes STEM projects, real-world application problems, and career-focused activities that utilize math for design.
How STEM is Incorporated
- Engineering Design Process: Students are required to design, test, and refine solutions to real-world problems.
- Inquiry-Based Learning: Activities encourage observation, classification, data measurement, and analysis.
- Real-World Application & Careers: Lessons connect theoretical concepts to practical, everyday applications and highlight STEM careers.
- Technology Integration: Students use tools like calculators, online resources (e.g., AfterSchoolHelp.com), and data-logging equipment to solve problems.
- Biblical Worldview: STEM projects often focus on stewardship of creation.
Examples in Specific Levels
- Science 1 & 4: Use captivating visuals and interactive activities to introduce scientific methods and tools.
- Science 5: Features dedicated STEM lessons, career feature boxes, and project-based learning.
- 6th Grade Science: Challenges students with hands-on labs focusing on topics like energy, motion, and waves.
- Math 6 & Algebra 1: Feature activities that apply math to, for instance, designing building, or calculating, as well as using technology to solve complex problems.
