All work, and no play, makes school a dull place!

CCA is NCAA Approved

CCA is also a fun place to be.  CCA students play 1A inter-scholastic girls’ and boys’ volleyball, basketball, and golf in the South Carolina Association of Christian Schools.  In addition, there are cheer-leading squads.

CCA’s high school subjects are approved by the NCAA.  This means CCA student athletes upon high school graduation are approved to practice, compete and receive athletic scholarships at NCAA member colleges.

College Eligibility and Scholarships: A primary impact is the ability of a student to compete in NCAA Division I or II sports or receive an athletic scholarship. If a high school’s accreditation is not in good standing with the NCAA, its student-athletes are unable to access these opportunities.

Academic Requirements: The NCAA sets specific academic standards for student-athletes, including requirements for core courses in math, science, and social studies. High schools must meet these standards to be deemed accredited, which directly influences the courses they offer.

The Cougars benefit from the expert coaching and encouragement of our coaches and athletic director. CCA offers a full year of interscholastic sports through its athletic program. JV competition (G6-10) in boys’ and girls’ volleyball and basketball is open to all students who wish to play. Varsity competition also in same sports.  In addition to these sports, there is pee wee and varsity cheerleading, and, in the spring, co-ed golf.  Over the years, CCA has won more than thirty state championships. These banners can be seen on our gym walls, the trophies can be seen in the trophy cases.

Key Benefits of School Athletics

  • Academic & Personal Development: Athletes often have higher GPAs, lower dropout rates, and better attendance. They learn crucial time management and goal-setting skills, as they must balance rigorous training schedules with academic responsibilities.
  • Physical & Mental Health: Regular, intense physical activity helps maintain cardiovascular health and strength. Furthermore, participation is linked to lower levels of depression, improved self-esteem, and better stress management.
  • Social & Life Skills: Sports teach teamwork, communication, cooperation, and resilience through winning and losing. Students learn responsibility, accountability, and leadership, particularly as they advance to upperclassmen roles.
  • Future Success: Participation in high school sports is a strong predictor of adult physical activity. Student-athletes often develop strong work ethics that translate to higher career income and increased community engagement, such as volunteering and voting.
  • School Community: Sports create a better school environment, offering a sense of belonging and community, say reports from NFHS and this article.
  • Valuable Mentors:   Athletics also act as an extension of the classroom, with coaches serving as mentors who guide students in navigating challenges and developing character
